Bone Marrow Donor Drive at Concordia University Aims to Save Jayden

Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation’s vision is simple: A match: Anytime, anywhere, for anyone. Cancer is a random killer, it can strike any one at any time. This drive will benefit patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic disorders. The goal is to expand the donor database and help patients have a higher chance of survival. You may be able to save one of these patients’ lives through blood and marrow transplants.
Jayden is a playful energetic, young Montreal girl who loves life. On February 11th, after a few days of extreme fatigue and headaches, tests revealed her blood levels to be abnormally low. A bone marrow biopsy revealed that her bone marrow was failing. Jayden has been living off of blood transfusions while doctors are trying to come up with a sustainable treatment for her. Her battle has just begun. She will face the aggressive Chemotherapy treatments followed by a bone marrow transplant, if a donor can be found. Please help us, and the many other kids and adults who face these awful diseases, by joining the Bone Marrow Registry.
Concordia Emergency & Medical Team is hosting a donor drive to register potential bone marrow donorson
behalf of Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation at Concordia University both downtown and Loyola campus and the Ben Weider JCC (YM-YWHA). The drive will benefit patients suffering from various blood cancers and diseases who are in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Students, faculty, and the larger community are all encouraged to participate in the donor drive. It’s fast and painless, and although there is no cost for a volunteer to join. Gift of Life relies on the generosity of donations to help offset these costs. If you are between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, you are eligible to be screened and join the worldwide registry for patients in need. A simple swab from the inside of your cheek is all it takes to determine if you are a match.
